It has been all go at the new Platform Gallery and Visitor Information Centre over the past few weeks. We have re-opened with a new look and we now also house Ribble Valley's award winning Visitor Information Centre.  Here you can pick up the latest information about local events, book tickets, accommodation and buy books, maps and souvenirs. The Platform Gallery still offers an exciting range of craft exhibitions and activities and our Craft Shop features high quality work by UK makers.   Our opening hours are:
9am to 5pm, Mon to Fri, 10am - 4.30pm Sat.

Our Craft Open has now finished, well done to prize winners Julie Bull (Selector’s Prize), Jenny Eaton (Ribble Valley Prize) and Catherine Holland (People’s Choice Award).

Lancashire Witches 400, launches this Saturday 28th July 2012 from 12 noon with the Ribble Valley Deputy Mayor and Mayoress

This exhibition, in partnership with Green Close, features new work by Julie Miles, Kate Eggleston-Wirtz, Hilli McManus, Peter Flowers and Sue Flowers.  Work responds to the social, religious and political issues of the time of the witch trials, as well as investigating broader contemporary issues. Also on show are the community and school based projects undertaken by each artist as part of the Lancashire Witches 400 programme.  For more information see http://www.lancashirewitches400.org

 We have just completed some fantastic workshops with Yasuyo Cooper, teaching Sashiko and origami techniques. During August, we will be offering family friendly activities in our Education Gallery.  There will also be a series of workshops and events relating to the Witches exhibition, more details coming soon!

An introduction to shabby reverse appliqué, combined with simple embroidery stitches and Indian Shisha mirror work to create a cute little owl softie.

Artist Talk by Julie Bull, ‘From Folk Art to Fairytales’

For our new look shop we have introduced lots of lovely work!

New to us this summer are gorgeous summery silk scarves by Ima Pico, ceramics by Tone Von Krogh, and devore textiles by Catherine Green. We also have framed textile work by Lucy Anne Harding,  Ribble Valley made glass jewellery by Aristera Glass, silver, gold and precious stone jewellery by Abby Mosseri, ceramics by Mercury Arts, scarves by Claire Armitage and new jewellery collections by Jessica Sherriff, Cloversoul, Mandy Nash, Kate Holdsworth and Kate Wimbush. There is too much to show here so do come and visit us for the best selection of British Craft in Lancashire!

At the Platform Gallery we are hosting a ‘Witch’ related cake competition!  Create your favourite ‘witch’ landmark in cake. A castle, Pendle Hill, or even one of the infamous witches themselves, whatever inspires you! For further information and competition rules please ring 01200 425566.

Feeling energetic? Walk the new Lancashire Witches walking route this August.  To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Witch Trials, there is a series of walks taking place over the summer, take in some spectacular countryside and learn more about the witches’ stories.  Click here for details or phone 01200 425566.

Believe it or not, our next exhibition will be ‘Winter Lux’, our seasonal selection of the best crafts for Christmas.  Lots of new work has been selected and this year we will be doing a showcase of lighting ideas!  It really is the best place to do your Christmas shopping this year, our launch day will be on Saturday 20th October so get the date in your diary now!
